Make Believe

A musical theatre fairy tale where six orphaned sisters discover their true origins lie at the heart of another world...

In a late 19th century dilapidated orphanage run by the negligent, Agnes Pumpernickel; six eccentric sisters begin to realize they are not like other children. Strange and marvelous things seem to happen whenever they are together and in their hearts they know magic is real.

Yet before these extraordinary sisters have a chance to understand who they are and where they come from, one by the one the girls go missing and the only clue to their disappearance is a lingering feeling which says nothing will ever be the same again...

After writing the play with its six characteristic sisters I was surprised to learn that a similar family of six sisters did in fact live next door to two of the most imminent folklorists of the 19th century; the Brothers Grimm. From the six Sisters Wild the brothers collected many of the world's most beloved fairy tales including; Rumpelstilzchen, The Singing Bone, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and so on.

The uncanny similarity of these real life sisters to the sisters which appear in Make Believe has not gone unnoticed. For is there not a glamour which surrounds the world of fairy tales reminding us magic is inescapable?

In a humble effort to thank these women for sharing their enduring and enchanting stories, Make Believe is eternally dedicated to the six sisters Wild.
